HENGEMT. I anledning af Kulturmødet 2015 på Mors, bad Morsø Friluftscenter mig, om at skabe et værk, der siger noget om Danmark netop nu. Det kom der det mærkværdige værk "Hengemt" ud af.
- Det Danmark, jeg kender, findes ikke mere. Landets skønneste egne, væk fra hovedstaden, udsultes. Skoler lukkes. Offentlige kulturkroner er en saga blot. Og vores måde at tage imod flygtninge og asylansøgere er uværdig, fjendsk og ødelæggende for kulturel innovation og nyskabelse. For at redde resterne af det, der var, har jeg derfor henkogt Dannebrog og kommet det på glas og flasker, så det kan bevare sin saft og kraft til bedre tider.
Værket trækker kunsthistoriske tråde både til Bjørn Nørgaards hesteofring og Sven Dalsgaards fascination af det danske flag. Ligeledes er der tydelige referencer til et af mine tidligere værker: Med samme retorik gravede jeg i 2009 et komplet klasseværelse med borde, stole, tavle og overheadprojekter ned.
- Kulturinstitutioner og fælles værdier står for fald, fortalte jeg dengang til Politiken. - Jeg vil gerne gemme en flig, der som et sart, ofret moselig, der efter årtusinder i jorden fortæller om tidligere tiders liv og verden. - Forhåbentligt går der ikke lang tid, før nysgerrige arkæologer graver klasselokalet op, og stiller de nødvendige spørgsmål, så vi kan lære og blive klogere af fortiden. På samme vis håber jeg, at det syltede Dannebrog kan få lov til at være en øjenåbner, så alle kan få øje på det, der er ved at ske i vores land lige nu.
Og der er nok at se efter. Ud over det tydeligvis slidte Dannebrog, ligger også i et af glassene både hvidløg og rød chili: - Vi skal have plads til kulturelle påvirkninger udefra. Det er jo ikke et nationalsocialistisk værk.
Værket er udlånt til Morsø Friluftcenter, Tordenhøjsvej 5, 9700 Erslev, hvor det kan ses på hylderne i det store, lyse væksthus.

"Is it even possible to tear Dannebrog, the Danish national flag, in pieces? And afterwards destill it in vinegar? If you ask the artist and cultural croniceur Hans Wendelboe Bøcher the answer is yes.
As part of the Kulturmødet 2015, the national Cultural Festival on the island of Mors, Morsø Friuftscenter asked the artist to create a work that depicted Denmark right now. The result was the remarkable work "Destilled".
- The Denmark, I know, is no more. The country's most beautiful areas, far away from the capital, are starving. Schools are closed. Public cultural funding is a thing of the past. And our way of accepting refugees and asylum seekers are unworthy, hostile and destructive to cultural innovation and creativity, says Hans Wendelboe Bøcher.
In order to save the remains of what once was, he therefore stewed the flag and preserved it in jars and bottles, so it can maintain its vigor for better times.
The work draws art-historical lines to both Danish artist Bjørn Nørgaard, who back in the 1970s sacrificed and preserved a hores as a bitter comment on the Vietnam War and Sven Dalsgaard's fascination with the Danish flag. Likewise, there are clear references to one of Hans Wendelboe Bøcher's own earlier works: In 2009 he buried - with the same rhetoric - a fully equipped classroom with tables, chairs, blackboard and overhead projector.
- Cultural institutions and shared values are falling, Hans Wendelboe Bøcher said back then when interviewed to Danish newspaper Politiken. - I would like to save a tab as a delicate, sacrificed bog body that after thousands of years in the ground tells about past lives and values.
- Hopefully it will not take long before curious archaeologists dig up the classroom, and put the necessary questions so we can learn and learn from the past.
Similarly Hans Wendelboe Bøcher hopes that the preserved Dannebrog may be an eye opener for all to discern what is happening in our country right now.
And there is plenty to see. Besides the obviously worn old flag also one of the glasses holds both garlic and red chili: - We need room for cultural influences. It's not a national socialist work I've created, Hans Wendelboe Bøcher laughs out.
The work is on loan from the artist to Morsø Friluftscenter, Tordenhøjsvej 5, DK-9700 Erslev, where it is on display in the large, bright greenhouse.
